Ingredients

1.5 kg Ground Beef Get leaner cuts for this dish if you want to restrict your food in calories
2 kg Cabbage The common varieties will work fine, but you may try making it with Napa cabbage or bok choy, their taste and texture suit this combination as well
200 g Carrot
300 g Celeriac
9 g Dill You can either use fresh or dried dill, fresh herbs always bring more aroma, so you can try it with parsley or scallions
6 cloves Garlic Or use 1-2 tsp of garlic powder
180 g Sunflower oil Other refined neutral oils are completely okay too
300 g Onions
200 g Prunes Check for the stems before cooking! Washing beforehand is highly advised. Smoked prunes add more savour to this stew.
1.5 tbsp Kosher Salt
1 tbsp Black Pepper
1 tbsp Sugar
300 g Tomato paste

Ingredients

Directions

This highly balanced winter dish is quite easy to cook, especially if you’ve already got the ground beef. The nice basket of different vegetables, herbs and oils works great as your source of vitamins. And it’s incredibly convenient as the main dish, you won’t need to cook anything else.

Steps

1
Done

Get everything together for this cabbage stew with ground beef. Peel carrots, celeriac and onions. Discard any damaged leaves from your cabbage.

2
Done

Slice the carrots and celeriac. Try to keep them similar in size, this way these vegetables will be cooked evenly.

3
Done

Fry your cut root crops in the preheated sunflower oil.

4
Done

Slice your onions into segments.

5
Done

Add them to the rest of fried vegetables.

6
Done

Combine with ground beef.

7
Done

Chop the cabbage.

8
Done

Add the cabbage to the rest of ingredients.

9
Done

Season your stew with sugar and salt.

10
Done

Cut your washed prunes, but don't try to get them too fine.

11
Done

Add the prunes to your beef stew.

12
Done

Chop the dill stems, add them to the mixture.

13
Done

Grind the black pepper, as always, and sprinkle over your cabbage stew.

14
Done

Pour the tomato paste into the stew.

15
Done

Add the rest of your dill.

16
Done

Mix the stew carefully and keep cooking for a few minutes.

17
Done

Serve the stew immediately. The glass of dry red would be highly appreciated! Enjoy it during the winter dinners with your family.
